Kris Gemmell

New Zealand Olympian: 1034

Biography

Palmerston North’s favourite Triathlon prodigy is one of the more interesting characters on the world scene. Known for his aggressive race tactics and at times outspoken nature, Gemmell does everything with attitude and more often than not a smile.

The pain of missing selection for Athens has burned deep in Gemmell and he has worked tirelessly since to ensure he was on the start line in Beijing. He famously joined Brendan Telfer in the TV commentary as Hamish Carter and his good friend and training buddy Bevan Docherty ran for gold and silver.

The hard work is paying off for Gemmell and he is now considered a threat over any course and in any conditions, albeit the tougher the course the better as he loves nothing better than to attack on the bike.

Gemmell was ranked 4th in the World Cup Ranking for 2007.
