Rio was Stuart's fourth Olympic Games having competing at Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012 with a best placing of ninth in London.
Stuart competed at three Commonwealth Games with a best finish at Delhi 2010, claiming silver. He also won silver at the 2009 World University Games.
He competed at five IAAF World Championships since 2007 with a best result of ninth at Moscow 2013.
The sixteen times New Zealand javelin champion first represented New Zealand at the Santiago 2000 World Junior Championships.
Stuart is originally from Te Aroha but now lives in Hamilton. He is married to Leone and has two sons and a daughter. He works part time in IT.
Stuart was competing for the Hamilton City Hawks club and was coached by Athletics NZ High Performance Programme coach Debbie Strange.
