Biography

EVENT: Wrestling - Freestyle 68kg Women

Tayla Ford has been involved in wrestling for more than 20 years, competing nationally and internationally since she was 16. She became New Zealand's first ever female Olympic wrestler when she competed at Paris 2024.

Ford has won multiple Continental championships for her country in wrestling which led her to qualify and compete for New Zealand on big stages such as Youth Olympic Games 2010, Commonwealth Games 2014, World Championships 2015-2019 and Commonwealth Games 2018 and 2022. She has two Commonwealth Games bronze medals to her name, won at Birmingham 2022 and Glasgow 2014.

Ford continues to fine tune her wrestling while also applying her skills to different grappling arts such as Jiujitsu.

She was born in Nelson, raised in Christchurch and lives in Adelaide.
