Biography
Jack started curling at around eight years old for fun with his mates at the local ‘Friday Night Curling’ in Naseby. This hobby led to a couple of competitions with his school team when he was in Year 7, and since then he’s been hooked.
Curling became quite a serious sport for Jack in 2020 when he was in Year 9. Since then, he has been in teams that have claimed gold at 2021, 2022, and 2023 South Island Secondary Schools Championships, a gold and a silver at the NZ Secondary School Championships, as well as a silver medal at the 2022 NZ Junior Men’s Championship.
In 2023 Jack was selected to attend a Youth Curling Development Camp in Lillehammer, Norway, which has improved his game tremendously. Jack was presented with the Spirit of Curling Award, the only recipient at the camp.
Jack lives in Naseby, a handy 700 metres away from the Maniototo Curling Rink, which allows him to train regularly. He feels fortunate to live in the Maniototo where many of New Zealand's top curlers live, and has had training from coaches such as Peter Becker, Nelson Ede, and NZ Men's team skip, Anton Hood. His current Youth Olympic coach is Bridget Becker, who has been an amazing New Zealand representative for many years.
Jack enjoys the outdoors and loves hunting and photographing New Zealand's amazing scenery. At Gangwon 2024, Jack will compete in the Mixed Team event.
