Johnny Borland

Biography

Johnny grew up in Christchurch attending Christchurch Boy's High School. He started high jump during his schooling years going on to become the NZ Universities High Jump Champion.

Winning three national tiltes in 1946, 1947 and 1950.

Selected for the Auckland 1950 British Empire Games (now Commonwealth Games) where he finished in fourth place with a height of 1.96m. This jump was a New Zealand record at the time.

Continuing his passion in athletics, Borland became a selector  and also held the role of President of the New Zealand Amateur Athletics Association in 1970.
