Paris 2024 marked Shaane Fulton's Olympic debut, where she competed in the Individual Sprint, finishing 11th overall, including setting a personal best time in the sprint qualifying. Shaane was also part of the silver medal-winning New Zealand women’s sprint cycling team, alongside Rebecca Petch and Ellesse Andrews. The team set a world record in the relatively new three-woman sprint relay on their way to the final. In the final, they were outpaced by the dominant British team, who broke the world record in all three of their races that day, clocking in at 45.186s. New Zealand couldn’t quite match their earlier performance but still delivered an impressive 45.659s.
A few years ago, Shaane suffered a career-threatening hip injury that sidelined her from the sport for two years. She worked diligently with the Cycling New Zealand High Performance Programme to make her comeback, becoming an integral part of the Team Sprint lineup and earning her spot in Paris.
Shaane has won the national 500TT title and several other national titles. She was also part of the New Zealand Team Sprint that set a new national record at the 2023 World Championships.
