Biography

EVENT: Netball

Whitney Souness won bronze with the New Zealand Netball Team at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The dynamic Wellington midcourter had long been earmarked for a bright future after playing for the New Zealand Secondary Schools team in 2013 and attaining National Development Squad status in 2014-15. First making the Pulse team in 2015, the then 19-year-old was good enough to earn a Silver Ferns trial the same year despite limited court appearances but was ruled out by a serious knee injury which kept her out of the game completely in 2016.

Souness made up for lost time in 2017, her speed off the mark, insightful feeding skills, change of direction off either foot, ability to off-load in the air and disruptive defensive work highlighting her abundant talent pool.
