Biography

Zac Reid is a middle distance swimmer from New Plymouth. Tokyo 2020 will be Zac’s first ever Olympic Games.

The last time Zac was in Tokyo was for the FINA World Cup in 2019. Zac placed second in the Men’s 400m Freestyle, bringing home the silver medal. Zac also competed at the 2019 FINA World Championships in the 400m and 800m Freestyle events, he will compete in these events at the  Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Zac qualified in the Men’s 800m Freestyle at the Olympic trial in December 2020. He holds the current New Zealand record for this event.

Outside of the pool, Zac is part of the Junior Black Fins (Fitzroy), the Surf Life Saving NZ international junior surf sports team. and competes internationally. At the 2018 Lifesaving World Championships in Adelaide, Zac brought in nine medals – including six gold – to the haul of 37 won by his team.

Zac is coached by Sue Southgate and studies extramurally at Massey University.
