Child was a founding Trustee of Aktive – Auckland Sport and Recreation having been on the board since its inception in 2013 and chaired the organisation from 2016 to 2022.

He has also served as the Chair of Hockey NZ and was a Board Member for the World Masters Games in 2017. He has extensive senior management and governance experience and holds several commercial directorships.

Child comes from a strong sporting background, having been a former hockey New Zealand representative, assistant coach of the Black Sticks Men and is currently a selector of the Black Sticks Men.
