3x3 Basketballers set to light up Glasgow 2026

A talent-packed group of Men’s and Women’s 3x3 Basketballers will represent the New Zealand Team at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Both teams bring a mix of international experience as well as emerging talent to the Games, with the 3x3 format back for its second Games appearance after debuting at Birmingham 2022.

In the Men’s team, Aidan Tonge has progressed through the 3x3 programme to captain the national side. He’s joined by Christian Martin and Josh Book who were part of the New Zealand team who claimed gold at the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup this year.

The FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup MVP, Te Tuhikiterangi Lewis, was also part of the gold medal winning Asia Cup side and completes a settled Men’s line-up. The team finished 10th at the World Cup in early June 2026, only narrowly losing to the eventual World Cup winners Latvia, 21-19 in the play-in game.

The Women’s team sees Ella Fotu return for her second Commonwealth Games appearance after competing at Birmingham 2022.

The experienced Sharne Robati has represented New Zealand across both Tall Ferns and 3x3 programmes and continues to build her international career. Eva Langton will make her Commonwealth Games debut, while Azure Anderson adds experience through her playing journey across New Zealand and Europe.

NZOC CEO, Nicki Nicol, welcomed the 3x3 Basketballers to the New Zealand Team.

“This is an exciting moment for 3x3 Basketball in New Zealand. These athletes have earned their selection through consistent performance on the international stage and they’ve shown they can compete with the best. Glasgow 2026 presents another opportunity to test themselves and represent their whānau and Aotearoa with passion and pride.”

Basketball New Zealand CEO, Belinda Edwards, said the teams are well prepared for the demands of the format.

“We’re seeing strong momentum in 3x3 Basketball across Aotearoa and these teams reflect that. The players selected have proven themselves in high-pressure environments and understand what it takes to succeed in this format. They’ll head to Glasgow 2026 with confidence and we’re backing them all the way!”
