A win and a loss for wrestler

Wellington wrestler Akash Khullar bowed out of the men’s 74kg competition today.

Khullar, 27, outclassed Jean Marianne of Mauritius in his first fight. He led 11-0 and was awarded victory because of technical superiority with his opponent unable to score any points.

Into the quarter-finals, Khullar faced capable Australian Connor Evans, who had forged a 6-0 lead when he inflicted a fall on the New Zealander.

Khullar is of Indian descent and arrived in New Zealand in 2012. He is coached by Scott Laurenson in Tawa.
