New Zealand bowlers Sonya Woodrow (with director Kimberley Carraher) and Kerrin Wheeler (with director Colin Wheeler) went down 6-4, 6-2 in their first match in the visually impaired mixed pairs. However they later bounced back to beat Scotland 7-2, 6-0.

The New Zealand pairing, making their Commonwealth Games debut, struggled for consistency and a couple of bad ends cost them in their first outing, against England.
Colin Wheeler said afterwards that the New Zealand team had been outdrawn. 'We weren't really able to play our own game. They beat us at our own game. We weren't able to execute how we wanted. We've got Scotland next and just need to eliminate a few little mistakes.'
His son Kerrin said it was 'brilliant' being at the Commonwealth Games with his father. 'Walking with the New Zealand team at the opening ceremony and having Dad with me... it's very special. Great memories.'
In the evening game against Scotland, the New Zealanders struck good form, winning 7-2, 6-0.
