When Daniel Hillier and Ryan Fox step up to the tee in Paris, they’ll know exactly what to expect as they navigate their way around the formidable Gold National course.
Three-time Olympian Fox and Olympic debutant Hillier have played the marquee French course multiple times, as they competed on the DP World Tour.
“Knowing the course, playing too aggressively could get you into trouble so I think you’re going to have to pick your battles during the week,” said Fox.
“It’s a course we’re pretty familiar with and hopefully some local knowledge will help. At the Olympics you do have to play aggressively because ultimately a podium finish is what you’re gunning for and that’s a goal for the week.”
Hillier agrees with the sentiment and says he’ll be following Fox’s lead as he heads to his first Olympic Games.
“I just need to treat it like any other event. I tend to perform to my best if I don’t put added pressure on myself and just do what I do best,” said Hiller.
Fox says he’s bringing extra confidence into this Olympic Games, following an elevation to the PGA tour in 2024.
“I feel like my golf game has gone to the next level,” said Fox.
“I feel more comfortable playing on that big stage, so it’ll be less of daunting task. I know when I’m playing my best golf, I’m right up there with anyone in the world so I’m looking forward to it.”
And Hillier is promising to soak it all in, as he competes on the world’s biggest sporting stage.
“Anytime you get to represent your country is a huge honour, this is the pinnacle of the team experience you get so it’s going to be an amazing week.”
