Camille French finished 60th in a particularly testing women’s marathon today.
The 34-year-old New Zealander had to contend with the draining Parisian heat and a demanding 5km uphill section midrace.
She was near the front of the 92-strong field initially, but gradually slipped back as the race unfolded.
French finished in 2h 37min 21s, which was 14min 26s behind the winner, Sifan Hassan, who finished in 2h 22min 55s.
Hassan, born in Ethiopia but representing the Netherlands, won in a sprint finish from Ethiopian Tigst Assefa. Hassan has already won bronze medals in the 5000m and 10,000m in Paris.
She is an amazing athlete – in Tokyo she won the 5000m and 10,000m and was the bronze medallist in the 1500m.
