Good session for NZ swimmers

Zoe Pedersen showed encouraging form in qualifying fifth for the women's 100m freestyle semi-finals.

The 19-year-old clocked 55.18s. The fastest qualifier was Australian Meg Harris, who recorded 53.91s.

'It was a solid swim, enough to get me into a semi,' she said. 'Recovery is going to be the key here, an ice bath, some fuel and we go again tonight!'

She felt it was extra satisfying to make progress in the 100m event. 'The 50 fly is my main event so anything else is a bit of a bonus. I’m super stoked to be here and I’m just trying to lap it all up.'

Chelsey Edwards was unable to progress in the 100m freestyle heats, being timed at 56.72s, which placed her 22nd of the 64 swimmeers in the event.

Hazel Ouwehand, fresh from her bronze medal in the 50m butterfly, also advanced to a semi-final, this time in the 100m butterfly. Her 1min 00.33s was good enough to earn her ninth place among the 16 semi-finalists. Brittany Castelluzo of Australia was the fastest qualifier with 57.91s.
