Jackson fights back after crash

New Zealand’s endurance riders survived a wild qualifying session on day three at the Lee Valley VeloPark in London.

George Jackson came down in a massive crash on the final lap of the second qualifying heat for the men’s scratch race, with several riders brought down and one catapulted over the fence into the crowd.

Jackson got up and rode over the line to qualify for the final. Teammates Campbell Stewart and Corbin Strong were prominent in qualifying in the first heat.

It was not such good news for the sprinters, with defending champion Sam Webster and Sam Dakin qualifying in 16th 10.033s and 10th in 9.928s respectively. However, Webster was beaten in the first round by top qualifier Paul Nicholas while Dakin was edged by Malaysia’s Sah Sahrom.

After a day off, the medal-winning trio of Michaela Drummond, Emily Shearman and Bryony Botha return to the track for the 25km women’s points race.
