Kim Smith withdraws from Glasgow Commonwealth Games with foot injury

Kim Smith announced this morning that she has been forced to withdraw from the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games team.

A disappointed Smith said that a foot injury has prevented her from being able to train properly. She had been selected to compete in the Marathon.

I unfortunately won't be able to run at Glasgow. I haven't been able to do enough training to compete at the level I would like to, said Smith.

Although Smith has competed at the last three Olympic Games - Athens (15th in the 5000), Beijing (9th 10,000) and London (20th Marathon), Glasgow would have been her first Commonwealth Games and she was looking forward to competing there.

Despite Smiths withdrawal, the Athletics team of 22 remains confident of a successful showing in Glasgow
