The fired-up basketballers turned on a much-improved display from their morning match, when they lost 21-15 to Australia.
Josh Book led the way with 10 points, breaking the Guyanan resistence with four two-pointers. Christian Martin scored six points, including a two-pointer and Te Tuhi Lewis contributed three, including yet another two-pointer. Aidan Tonge played strongly and allowed Guyana no space.
The New Zealanders were so dominant that they reached 21 points, and therefore the end of the game, with five minutes remaining of allotted time.
Book said afterwards the team had had to regroup after the 'hard loss' to Australia. 'You go away and think about it. You review, you learn and you go out and ecxecute next time. It's a testament to our culture.'
It's a big day for the men - they play their third game, against Nigeria, in the evening session.
