Netballers cruise past Trinidad and Tobago

Coach Noeline Taurua's team went unbeaten through group play and have now booked a semi-final against England.

There was a time when a match against Trindiad and Tobago would have caused serious concern in the New Zealand camp. After all, they were joint world champions in 1979 and runners-up to New Zealand in 1987. But times have changed and they posed few problems for New Zealand in Glasgow.

New Zealand led 21-4 at quarter-time and by halftime they'd stretched the gap to 41-13.

The only New Zealanders who didn't take the court were injured defender Catherine Hall and shooter Georgia Heffernan.

For New Zealand Grace Nweke was back, after missing the previous game, and looked sharp, netting 34 of her 36 attempts. Amelia Walmsley succeeded with 34 of her 38 shots and Martina Salmon missed only one of her 16 shots.

By comparison, Trinidad and Tobago relied almost exclusively on goal shoot Afeisha Noel, who scored with 21 of her 24 shots. She received almost no shooting support, which made life a lot easier for the New Zealand defenders.

England finished second behind Australia in the other group, confirming second placing with a 58-54 win over South Africa in the last match of group play.
