After a nervous few hours, the New Zealand netball team duly made the semi-finals at the Commonwealth Games on the back of a superior goal percentage during pool play.
Despite suffering losses to England and Malawi, the New Zealanders progressed when Uganda and Malawi were unable to score decisive enough wins in the final round.
New Zealand, who went down 54-45 to England today, will meet either Australia in the semi-finals.
New Zealand coach Janine Southby said the team was pleased to stay in the hunt for a medal, but acknowledged the level of intensity would lift again in the play-offs.
“There are four very strong netball nations in the semi-finals and are all eyeing a Commonwealth Games medal,” she said.
“It’s up to us to ensure that we finish our campaign strongly in what will be a tough few days ahead.”
The semi-finals will be on Saturday with the gold medal match on Sunday.
