Patolo fourth in weightlifting

Tui-Alofa Patolo gave it everything she had in the 86kg weightlifting and came up just short of a medal.

The 36-year-old Northlander finished with a total of 245kg, which left her 5kg short of third-placed Etta Love of Canada.

Patolo was outstanding in the snatch, opening with 109kg, then 112kg and thern a personal best 115kg. She seemed extremely composed and solid and looked forward confidently to the clean and jerk section.

'With me it's always a game of two halves,' she said later. 'I put myself in a really good position in the snatch and then needed to execute in the clean and jerk.'

Unfortunately she wasn't at her best in the clean and jerk, though she succeded with an opening 130kg, but then missed 135kg and 136kg.

She was disappointed if philosophical about the contest. 'It's my third time representing New Zealand and I was proud to be out there lifting, but I need to go away now and work on a few things to improve my clean and jerk.'

The gold medal went to Englishwoman Emily Campbell, who was a class apart, lifting a total of 270kg.
