Emile Richardson went desperately close to winning his opening bout of the men’s middleweight boxing competition.
Richardson, a 25-year-old from Bulls, was eventually outpointed on a split decision by Des Amsterdam of Guyana.
The final judges’ score was 3-2 and an analysis shows that in all three rounds the judges were split 3-2.
Both boxers handed out some punishment and by the end of the contest it was virtually a flip of the coin decision.
