The New Zealand men’s seven rugby team finished fifth in Paris, after beating Argentina and Ireland on the final day.
In their first outing today they staged a late comeback to beat Argentina 17-12 in extra time.
Akuila Rokolisoa opened the scoring for New Zealand with a try which he converted, but after that Argentina spent considerable time on attack and New Zealand struggled to make any headway.
The New Zealanders were staring at defeat until Moses Leo scuttled over for a try in the last play of regular time. Andrew Knewstubb scored the match-winning points with a try in extra time to earn New Zealand another meeting with Ireland in the fifth place play-off.
The teams had already met in pool play, when New Zealand squeaked home 14-12.
This time New Zealand had too much flair and pace and won 17-7, with tries to Leroy Carter, Brady Rush and Moses Leo.
New Zealand were eliminated from the medal race when they were beaten by South Africa in the quarter-finals.
