Hamish Kerr OLY (#1446) has etched his name further into New Zealand sporting history, completing a full set of global gold medals with victory in the men’s high jump at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
The 29-year-old soared to 2.36m in the final, equalling his own New Zealand and Oceania record. The clearance also marked the highest jump in the world this year, achieved on his very first attempt. Kerr sealed the title when South Korea’s Woo Sang-hyeok was unable to match the height, sparking jubilant celebrations as he sprinted across the infield.
The triumph adds the final piece to Kerr’s golden collection of global titles. He is now the reigning World Champion, Olympic Champion (Paris 2024), and Diamond League Champion (2025) – an achievement no other New Zealand high jumper has accomplished.
