New Zealand boxer Jordan Wilson is embracing every moment as she prepares to step into the ring at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
"It's been an epic build-up. I'm feeling ready and excited," she said. "It's cool to be in a familiar setting. We've trained in Glasgow before, so it's nice to be back."
One of the highlights of arriving in Glasgow was taking part in the official team welcome.
"The haka was one of the key things I was looking forward to the most. It's so powerful watching it and the way it brings all the sports into unison. The emotions were incredible. I couldn't take the smile off my face."
In the lead-up to the Games, haka practice became a regular fixture at the Wilson household, with the whole family getting involved.
"My niece would come into my bedroom every morning and say, 'Aunty, it's haka practice time,' and she knows the full haka now too. As a team, we've pulled together and worked really hard over the last couple of weeks to get our haka strong."
Now, with competition just around the corner, Wilson is looking forward to proudly representing New Zealand on the Commonwealth Games stage.
"I imagine it's going to surpass what I'm thinking, but I'm so excited to do it. There's a whole country behind us. I know I've done all the hard work, I'm ready, and I'm going to do that fern proud."
