Youth Olympic Games golfer in hot form

Jimmy Zheng has produced the round of a lifetime to win the New Zealand Secondary Schools Finals with a course record of 12-under par, 60 at Palmerston North Golf Club.

Playing for MacLeans College Zheng was unstoppable with a back nine blitz of 27, which included seven birdies and one eagle to stun the field.

16 year old Zheng was selected for the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games earlier this year, and showed why as he recorded his career-best round.

“It feels amazing and it’s definitely my best round ever. It’s nice to see that all the hard work is paying off and that we are on the right track, especially just before the Youth Olympic Games,” said Zheng.

“After my eagle on 10, something clicked and everything started to drop. I just kept level-headed and from there it was approach and putt, approach and putt.

“It’s great for the team and great for the school to get this win, we are all very happy.”
