Aaron Gate is an Olympic bronze medallist and six-time Commonwealth Games medallist. Gate won Olympic bronze medal in the Team Pursuit at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Ten years later, at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Gate won a staggering four gold medals, making history as the first ever New Zealander to win four golds at a single Games.
Gate stood on top of the podium in the 4000m Individual Pursuit, 4000m Team Pursuit, Points Race and the Road Race. He also placed 4th in the time trial. His outstanding results saw him named Closing Ceremony flagbearer for the New Zealand Team. This plus his three medals at the world in 2023 led to him selected as New Zealand Sportsman of the Year.
At World Championship level Gate has won sevens medals including the Omnium title in 2013 and the Points Race title in 2023.
The 31-year-old has also impressed on the road with several years riding for UCI Pro Continental teams in Europe, picking up wins in major tours in New Zealand as well as in Europe for the Bolton Equities Black Spoke Pro Cycling team. Gate fractured his clavicle in a freak crash at Tokyo Olympic Games with the New Zealand Team on their way to the bronze medal in the Team Pursuit
Gate was the New Zealand Team flagbearer at Paris 2024.
