Biography
EVENT: Cycling – Men’s Mountain Bike Cross Country, Men’s Road Race
North Canterbury's Ben Oliver won silver at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, placing second behind compatriot Sam Gaze.
Oliver has been a thoroughly consistent performer both on mountain bike and the road in recent years. He continues to push Anton Cooper at the nationals every year, and for the last four years has plied his trade as a privateer on the world circuit.
He enjoyed his best start to a season in 2022 with 20th in Brazil and 32nd in Albstadt along with third in the Oceania champs, which has pushed his world ranking inside the top 50 and earned a start in the short track races, which determine grid positions for the main racing. He was fourth in the 2018 Commonwealth Games race on the Gold Coast.
