Lyndon Sheehan

New Zealand Olympian: 1240

Biography

Lyndon’s love for freeskiing began as a youngster in a ski racing suit. He began ski racing at age seven but his attention was soon caught by the relatively new sport of freeskiing

“The first time I saw the older guys flying out of the halfpipe on those weird double tipped skis my attention was well and truly distracted from the racecourse,” says Lyndon. “In my imagination I was right there with those guys, playing on the jumps, doing all sorts of cool tricks. I knew that was where I wanted to be.

Lyndon began freeskiing at age 12 and was competing on the international circuit by the time he was 16. With lots of dedication to working hard on and off snow, Lyndon has now travelled the globe, pursuing all the things he loves about freeskiing, in particular learning new tricks, improving his skills and the chance to ski with friends.

Lyndon is looking forward to the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi as a “once in a life time experience.” He is proud to represent New Zealand at the highest level of his sport and aims to land the best run he can to achieve a top result.

Lyndon is currently ranked 16th in the world for freeski halfpipe having recorded a season best of 16th at the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships in Norway in March 2013 and 4th at the Winter Games NZ 2013 Halfpipe World Cup. Other notable achievements include qualifying for the Winter X-Games in 2010 and achieving 4th place in the Nippon Freeski Open in 2008.

When he’s not competing or training in the halfpipe, Lyndon also enjoys skateboarding, graphic design, photography and freeskiing with his sister, Amy, who is also a competitive skier.
