Flying start for Mcilroy in bowls
Lawn bowler Shannon Mcilroy opened New Zealand's Glasgow Commonwealth Games effort with a top-class display in the men's singles.

Mcilroy, a veteran of five Commonwealth Games, outclassed Tongan 17-year-old Liam Hill in their first round match.
The Nelson man won in straight sets, 10-2, 15-3. He was in particularly good touch and regularly scored twos, threes and even fours.
Hill, who lives in Auckland, is regarded as one of New Zealand's more promising juniors, but couldn't get into the match. Except for a three just before the end of the second set, he had no answer to Mcilroy's precision bowling.
The singles in Glasgow comprises two sets of seven ends, with a tiebreaker end if sets are split.
Mcilroy has won four world championship medals stretching back to 2012, but has never won a medal at a Commonwealth Games.
