Courtney McGregor pick of gymnasts

Courtney McGregor's return to top artistic gymnastics has taken a big step forward with her performances in Glasgow.

McGregor, 27, has returned to the sport after an absence of five years. She was a leading gymnast a decade ago and competed at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

She moved to the United States to study and compete for Boise State University, serving as the university's gymnastics team captain. McGregor was forced out of the sport for a year after rupturing an Achilles tendon and retired a couple of years later.

These days she lives in Auckland where she is completing her final year of medical studies at Auckland University, including clinical placements at North Shore Hospital.

The busy life obviously hasn't hindered her return to gymnastics.

She was the best-performed of the New Zealand women's team across most disciplines.

In the all-around competition, she finished 15th in the field of 38 and qualifed for the final. She was eighth in the vault and grabbed the final qualifying spot for that final. Her 22nd placing in the uneven bars, 28th in the floor exercises and 21st on the balance beam placed her mid-field, but too low to qualify for the finals.

Jun McDonald and Sienna Shields were the other members of the New Zealand women's team. Shields' 10th in the vault was her best performance, while McDonald's was her 15th on the uneven bars.

New Zealand finished at the bottom of the field in the teams event.
