The XXX Olympiad is heating up with London blessed with more hot weather and the New Zealand athletes who are set for early competition now in training in the village.
The rowing team have moved into their rowing and kayak satellite village and today they hosted the New Zealand media at their day house which is only 2kms from the rowing venue at Eton Dorney.
The rowers then ventured to the lake for a further training row ahead of their competition which begins this Saturday with a full line-up of crews in action on the first day.
The swimming team also had their second day in the marvellous new aquatic centre as they prepare for their competition that also starts on Saturday.
New Zealanders are involved in two further competitions that begin on Saturday. The equestrian team returned to the village today in readiness for the three-day eventing at Greenwich for both team and individuals.
The road cyclists are currently staying out on the course for Saturdays road race, to train on the circuit part of the course in Surrey before the trio of Linda Villumsen, Jack Bauer and Greg Henderson move into the village. The mens road race is on Saturday and women on Sunday.
Tomorrow the kiwi focus is on Millennium Stadium at Cardiff where the Football Ferns take on Great Britain in what is the first sporting encounter of the Olympic Games.
Off the sporting field, triple Olympic Games medallist Barbara Kendall took part in the official Torch Relay which moved into central London, while tomorrow the hard work of many volunteers is realised with the official blessing and opening of Kiwi House at the heart of the Olympic transport system at Kings Cross. It will play host to kiwis, both UK based and from New Zealand, athletes and their friends and families.
