The New Zealand Sevens team has been defeated 14-7 by South Africa in the Paris Olympics quarter finals. The South Africans opened the scoring through Selvyn Davids in the third minute before going up 14-0 with a try from Tristan Leyds three minutes later. New Zealand responded just before halftime with Moses Leo dotting down, but couldn't breach the South African defence in the second half.

The stage is set for the NZ Sevens as it draws closer to game time in the quarter finals against South Africa in an hour's time (7am NZT). NZ beat South Africa 17-5 in pool play yesterday.
Track cyclist Aaron Gate and sailing athlete Jo Aleh have been named Ngā Pou Hapai (flag bearers) for the New Zealand Team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The pair were formally announced in the presence of Her Excellency Dame Cindy Kiro as Ngā Pou Hapai Tāne and Wāhine, by Chef de Mission Nigel Avery at a team function attended by athletes, team support, partners and dignitaries in Paris.
Gate, Olympian #1146, won bronze at the London 2012 Olympic Games. He will become a four-time Olympian in Paris and is one of our most decorated ever Commonwealth Games athletes, with six medals, including the four gold he won at Birmingham 2022.
Aleh, Olympian #992, is a two-time Olympic medallist having won gold at London 2012 and silver at Rio 2016 alongside crew mate Polly Powrie. Aleh has since teamed up with Rio silver medallist Molly Meech, with the pair set to compete in the 49er FX at the Paris Games.

The New Zealand Women have been defeated 2-1 in their Olympic opener against defending champions Canada. The Kiwis opened the scoring before Canada struck back late in the first half and then 11 minutes out from fulltime.

Canada have struck back in first half injury time, levelling the score 1-1 thanks to a rocket into the top corner from Cloé Lacasse. Big second half to come!
The New Zealand Women have opened strongly against defending Olympic champions Canada, with Mackenzie Barry putting the Kiwis up 1-0 in the 13th minute with a superb turn and shoot from a corner set piece.
The New Zealand Men's Rugby Sevens team have secured a last minute 14-13 win over Ireland to remain undefeated at the Paris Olympics. The result sets the Kiwis up for a quarter final against South Africa later today (7am NZT).

A win would see NZ go up against South Africa in the quarter finals, while a loss would see them meet Fiji.
