Margaux Hackett was ‘hungry for more’ at Freeski Slopestyle Qualifiers

Margaux Hackett (Wānaka, 22) competed in freeski slopestyle today, her second event of the Winter Olympics, and finished in a respectable 16th place.

“I wanted more, I was hungry for more and I was looking forward to tomorrows finals. Obviously, it wasn’t enough today, and I will have to wait for next time.”

Hackett put down a solid first run with a technical rail section which included a 450 out of the third rail. A couple of bobbles cost her points and she was sitting in 13th place after run one, just one spot outside of finals.

She dropped in for her second run, lacing together the same trick combinations but aiming to land them cleaner. She came into the third jump with a little too much speed, resulting in a crash with no improvement to her run one score.

“I am pretty disappointed; I tried my best and unfortunately went a bit too big on the last jump and had a crash.”

Despite a tough day today, Hackett remains positive and is looking forwards. “This is my first Olympics, I had pretty high expectations of myself, but the whole experience has been cool.”
