Gustav Legnavsky (Wānaka, 16) has arrived at the Zhangjiakou Olympic Village ahead of his Olympic debut in the Freeski Halfpipe.
“It’s amazing, the environment is so cool, it was so nice being welcomed to the New Zealand Team and it’s great to see other countries and athletes, it’s such a great experience.”
Legnavsky is one of the youngest male athletes competing in any event at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
“I’m young but I try and treat myself the same as every other athlete, I don’t get any extra credit being young, I’ve still got to perform and be the best I can be. I’m just aiming to have fun and be happy with my skiing and ski to my abilities.”
Legnavsky has had a breakthrough season on the World Cup circuit, qualifying for his first World Cup final at the Mammoth Mountain FIS Freeski Halfpipe World Cup in January this year.
Legnavsky joins our other three freeski halfpipe men, Nico Porteous, Miguel Porteous and Ben Harrington in the qualifiers scheduled to be held on the 17th of February.
