Katelyn Inch and Selina Goddard picked up another bowls medal for New Zealand when they won the women’s pairs bronze.
The New Zealanders beat Malaysia 20-15 after being in charge for most of the match. They led 11-4 after 10 ends, were 12-12 after 13 ends and then forged a winning lead when they led 18-13 after 16 ends.
Goddard had already won a bronze medal in Birmingham as part of the New Zealand women’s four. Inch was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the women’s singles.
New Zealand were unbeaten in pool play, edged out Wales in the quarter-finals and lost to England in the semi-finals to set themselves up for the bronze medal match.
Goddard said the Malaysians were a tough team. “We always knew we’d have to earn it today,” she said. “They are a very professional team and we had to fight hard for the win.”
