Biography

EVENT: Rugby Sevens – Women

Gayle Broughton is an Olympic gold and silver medallist, having won gold with the New Zealand women’s sevens team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and silver at Rio 2016.

Broughton is an exciting player with masterful footwork and the ability to set a match alight.

Born and raised in Taranaki, Broughton honed her skills on the touch field before joining the New Zealand women's sevens as an 18-year-old in 2014.

Broughton was a member of the 2018 Commonwealth Games Gold medal winning team and scored a crucial length-of-the-field try in the World Cup Sevens semi-final which saw the New Zealand women's sevens progress, and win, the final.

Off the field, Broughton is a qualified personal trainer.
