Joanna White was a member of the Yngling crew that had finished 7th at the 2004 world championships to confirm a spot in the Athens 2014 Olympic Games. They also won a gold medal at the highly rated Miami regatta.
Joanna began her sailing career on Lake Rotorua and believes it was a great place to learn with the shifty conditions.
The 18ft Yngling, made its maiden appearance at the Olympics in Athens. The yachts required a three-person crew to operate three sails.
The other two members of White's team, Inspiration Challenges, were Canadian-born Sharon Ferris and Napier's Kylie Jameson.
