Biography

Jonty Farmer was born in Te Puke, later moving with his family to Rotorua where he attended Rotorua Boys' High School.

A sailor in the Finn class, Jonty was a three-time Olympian selected for the Mexico City 1968, Munich 1972 and Montreal 1976 Olympic Games.

Farmer participated at the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games with a best result of second place in the second race before finishing 11th overall after the seventh and final race.

Four years later, he was selected as a reserve at the Munich 1972 Olympic Games. Jonty selected again for the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games got another opportunity, finishing 15th out of the 28 competitors. In the same year he finished second to Chris Law in the Finn Gold Cup in Brisbane.
