Malcolm Hicks

New Zealand Olympian: 1434

Biography

EVENT: Athletics: Men's Marathon

Tokyo 2020 will be Malcolm's first Olympic Games.

A member of the Wesley Athletic and Harrier Club in Auckland, he is now living in London but is still coached by New Zealand-based Paul Hamblyn.

Achieved the marathon qualifying standard by slashing nearly four minutes from his personal best with 2:10:04 at the Seville Marathon in Spain in February of 2020.

That qualifying time makes him the fourth-fastest Kiwi to ever have run the marathon.

He has previously represented New Zealand once in the marathon on the international stage, running 2:17:45 at the World Championships in 2019.

A latecomer to the marathon, the 33-year-old previously ran in shorter distances and has made great strides since dedicated himself to the marathon just three years ago.

Combines his running career with a fulltime job for a multinational engineering firm.
