“I’m pretty disappointed. I would really have liked to have got in the top 16,” said Willis. “I knew if I had skied the way I can I would have got in there. But a couple of costly mistakes and bad skiing on some sections proved costly.

“My second run was better but still not quite where I’d like to be,” said Willis. “A couple of mistakes and it really started to add up and cost me a few placings.

“Things got a lot better between run and two.”

Adam said, “Things started off well, I was giving it full gas but a there were a couple of costly mistakes on the steep sections."

Adam and Willis will now prepare for their final event of the PyeongChnag Games, the Slalom, scheduled for Thursday 22 February.

Speed Skating

The men’s speed skating team of Shane Dobbin, Reyon Kay and Peter Michael progressed to semi-finals of the Team Pursuit as the fourth fastest team on the ice tonight with a time of 3:41.18s.

Paired against Norway in Quarter Final 1, the New Zealanders struggled with a warmer ice temperature than they have been used to in training, and also admitted to a few nerves.

“It’s definitely the worse run we’ve done in a couple of weeks, more than likely it was just the nerves,” said Shane. “We’ve got a few points we need to work on now. Knowing that the ice is warmer we’ll make a few technical changes and come out fighting on Wednesday.”

The Kiwis will face top qualifiers Republic of Korea (3:39.29s) in Semi Final 1 in three days’ time.

“It’ll be a tough run against Korea,” said Peter. “We put pressure on ourselves and we expect nothing but the best so we’ll always be striving for more.”

“We’re pretty fortunate to go through to the next round and looking forward to the challenge,” said Reyon.
