The Month That Was: September

It's been a busy month for New Zealand's athletes, many of whom have been competing in the Northern Hemisphere in world class events.

A real highlight was the women's K4 canoe sprint team winning gold at the World Championships in Germany. Led by Lisa Carrington it was the first K4 from New Zealand, male or female, to win a world championship title.

Our cyclists were also incredibly impressive at their World Championships in Glasgow. Ellesse Andrews was in a class of her own to win the Keirin, with teammate Aaron Gate well clear of the field in the points race to win the second rainbow jersey of his career.

Not to be outdone our Kiwi rowers bagged three medals as they took on the world in Serbia.  Seasoned campaigner Emma Twigg led the charge, winning silver in the women's single sculls. In the male equivalent Tom Mackintosh secured bronze, while the men's four also took bronze.

Our men's U23 football team then locked in Paris qualification, winning their qualification tournament in Auckland. Golfer Ryan Fox has been in fine form, winning the PGA Championship at Wentworth in England.

Mountainbiker Anton Cooper took silver in the Paris test event and weightlifter David Liti hefted a 407kg total to place 9th at the IWF Weightlifting World Champs.

It's all promising stuff as our team builds to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
