Sarah Tetzlaff recorded a personal best score of 8.39s in her speed climbing qualifying heat today, but was unable to progress past the elimination heats.
In the qualifying round, Tetzlaff returned performances of 8.39s and 8.64s, which ranked her 12th of the 14 competitors.
Into the elimination heats she faced the daunting task of taking on third-seeded Poland climber Aleksandra Kalucka.
The New Zealander again climbed right up to her best with 8.41s, but was outclassed by Kalucka, who raced up the wall in 6.65s.
The Tauranga-based Tetzlaff said was “pretty stoked” with her Oceania record climb. “It was a cool result under that pressure. A lot of work went into it over all these months.”
The 24-year-old said was still looking for a little more. “I feel I could have gone a bit faster, but were solid climbs. I was happy with how I went.”
