Biography

Aucklander Bryony Botha competed in her second Olympic Games at Paris 2024, participating in two events. She placed 8th in the Women’s Madison alongside teammate Emily Shearman in a field of 15, and was part of the silver medal-winning team pursuit squad, alongside Ally Wollaston, Emily Shearman, and Nicole Shields. The New Zealand women’s team led for most of the event but finished second to the USA in the final, recording a time of 4min 04.927s, with the USA finishing first at 4min 04.306s.

Bryony joined the Cycling New Zealand High Performance programme in 2017 after excelling as a junior, earning junior world championship medals, including gold in the Team Pursuit in 2015. She was also part of the women’s pursuit team that won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and bronze at the 2019 World Championships.

Since the Tokyo Olympics, Bryony has flourished as an individual rider, breaking the New Zealand record in the Individual Pursuit three times. Her current record of 3:19.634 is now a world-class Oceania record.

In addition to her track success, Bryony is a talented road rider, consistently finishing in the top 10 at the National Championships from 2021 to 2023 while remaining based in New Zealand.
