Biography

EVENT: Canoe Sprint: Women's K4 500m, K2 500m, K1 500m

Caitlin Regal is an Olympic gold medallist, having won the K2 500m at Tokyo 2020 alongside Lisa Carrington.

The pair led throughout the race to finish in a time of 1m 35.785s and claim New Zealand’s first female medal in the event.

In Tokyo Regal also competed in the K1 500m placing 9th and in the K4 500 placing 4th.

Tokyo was Regal’s second Olympic Games after featuring in the K4 500m team which finished fifth at Rio 2016.

A former national surf lifesaving champion, Regal made her international canoe sprint debut at the 2013 World U23 Championships in Canada - just seven months after first picking up a paddle.

At the 2017 World Championships in Racice in the Czech Republic she earned a gold medal in the K2 500m paddling alongside Lisa Carrington.
