Lauren Boyle became just the fourth Kiwi swimmer to attend three Olympic Games during Rio 2016.
Her best Olympic result was a brilliant fourth placing in the 800m freestyle final in London 2012. Lauren has been New Zealand's most successful swimmer, winning five of the country's 10 medals ever won at the FINA World Championships.
Lauren is a graduate from the University of California (Berkeley) in Business, she has competed at three Commonwealth Games (2006, 2010 and 2014), winning relay medals in 2006 and 2010 leading to a gold medal in the 400m freestyle and a silver medal in the 800m freestyle at Glasgow in 2014.
In 2014 Lauren became the first New Zealander to win three medals at a single Pan Pacific Championship. She broke the 1500m freestyle short course world record in 2014 and was a FINA World 25m Champion in 2012.
Preparation for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games was not ideal as Lauren was hampered by injury preventing her from recapturing her best. She finished 14th in the semi-finals for the 400m freestyle, and was unlucky to miss the 800m final by 0.29 seconds finishing in 9th position.
Due to ongoing injury and Lauren announced her swimming retirement in August 2017.
