New Zealand Olympian: 696
Nyla started athletics at a young age however due to a lot of outside pressures and expectations she took a ten-year hiatus from sport from the ages 15-25.
Like many athletes, Nyla juggled her training with part-time employment at the Frontrunner a local running shop.
Coached by legendary Dick Quax, Nyla set NZ records for 3,000, 5,000m and the half marathon. Despite qualifying for the 5,000m, 10,000m and marathon, an undiagnosed Achilles tendon tear saw her miss valuable training in the lead up to the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games.
Nyla competed in the 10,000m at the Atlanta Olympic Games with her return to New Zealand resulting in surgery.
