Biography

Phil a member of the Black Sticks, a midfielder but often also a hard running and devastating striker who threatens defences with penetrating runs and lethal shots on goal – and his reverse shot is one of the most accomplished in the game.

Phil was born and bred in Wellington and has often turned out for the region in the New Zealand NHL. He is now a senior member of the team who is being used to cover the midfield from time to time. An impressive athlete having four Commonwealth Games and three Olympic games on his sporting CV.

Glasgow 2014 was the fourth Commonwealth Games for Phil, where the team finished 4th. Phil has represented New Zealand at the 2002 Games in Manchester where the team won silver, the 2006 Games in Melbourne and the 2010 Games in Delhi where the team won bronze. Phil was also a member of the New Zealand team that competed at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.

Phil’s career highs have been the silver medal they won at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games and playing in Athens in 2004.
