Piet Bulling is the hard-man of the men's team pursuit; a highly talented and uncompromising performer.
He became a teenage star with national titles and records but dogged by some persistent injuries, he walked away from the sport at 17 with a bright future in place. Bulling was lured back to the sport, heading to the tough roads of Europe before coming back home and working his way into the high performance squad.
Bulling quickly became a key part of the team pursuit, culminating in a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and rising to the rainbow jersey of world championships in Paris in 2015 when they set a national record 3:54.088. He also won the national title in the individual pursuit in 2016.
Rio was Bulling's first Olympic Games just missing the podium in the 4000m team pursuit finishing in 4th place.
