Biography

EVENTS: Track Cycling: Women's Team Pursuit and Madison

Brought up in the cycling stronghold of Te Awamutu, Tokyo will be Buchanan's third Olympic Games, having placed fourth in Rio and fifth in London, both in the team pursuit.

She has been a world-class rider on the track as well as the road, where she had a long career for USA-based professional teams. She came into prominence earning a silver medal in the junior world track championships in 2005 in Mexico.

Buchanan has been a key performer across the sport, winning national titles on the road, time trial and criterium, as well as four world championship medals on the track including the multi-event omnium.

She competed in the team pursuit and the two-rider Madison which had been re-introduced to the Olympic programme for Tokyo.
